There is something about its two high towers stretching towards the sky; like a guardian it watches over Paris day and night. If there´s one building that is high on the wish list for travelers visiting Paris its Notre Dame.

Notre Dame was built in 900 AD and was, at its time, a remarkable architectural leap in building design. On example of a remarkable design was a system of rough arches which led down the side pressure of the high vaults to the outer walls.
The cathedral stands on the Ile de la Cite, an island situated on the river Seine, in a location where the first church of Paris Saint-Étienne Basilica previously stood and before that a temple dedicated to Jupiter.
